Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT)

Craniosacral Fascial Therapy is the work of Dr. Barry Gillespie. It is based on his theory that the Craniosacral and Fascial systems are not separate, but one interconnected system. CFT blends the two established modalities of Dr. William Sutherland’s Cranial Sacral Therapy and John Barnes’ Myofascial Release, along with dental techniques developed by Dr. Gillespie’s experience as a periodontist.

From birth through adulthood, we experience trauma that can have a lasting effect on our health and vitality. When untreated, traumas can lead to chronic conditions. By integrating Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT) into your wellness routine, you can access a wide array of health benefits. CFT works at the root of many physical and emotional challenges by addressing restrictions in the body’s fascia, which can hold tension and trauma.

Craniosacral Fascial Therapy is a gentle, hands-on modality that focuses on the craniosacral fascial system. The intricate craniosacral fascial system originates in the body’s core around the brain and spinal cord and extends through the fascial web. A healthy system allows for the free flow of cerebral spinal fluid from the brain, down the spine, to the sacrum, and into the fascia. CFT addresses restrictions within the fascial and craniosacral systems.

Benefits of Craniosacral Fascial Therapy in Adults include:

  • Enhanced Nervous System Function: Helps in normalizing the central nervous system's environment, potentially improving conditions like migraines, chronic pain, and stress disorders.

  • Pain Relief: Can alleviate pain related to musculoskeletal issues, such as back pain, neck stiffness, and TMJ syndrome.

  • Stress Reduction: Promotes deep relaxation, reducing the impact of stress and trauma on the body.

  • Better Sleep: By calming the nervous system, CFT can contribute to improved sleep patterns.

  • Immune System Support: Enhancing body balance might support the immune system indirectly through stress reduction.

  • Improved Cerebrospinal Fluid Flow: CFT aims to facilitate the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, which can positively affect brain health and cognitive function.

  • Emotional Well-being: Often reported by clients as leading to emotional releases or a sense of peace, aiding in mental health.

  • Mind-Body Awareness: Encourages a deeper connection with one's bodily sensations, fostering mindfulness.

Incorporating Craniosacral Fascial Therapy into your health practice can serve as a profound journey towards self-healing, offering a non-invasive approach to managing pain, reducing stress, and enhancing overall health.
